WHEN TO COME?
The Tuli Safari runs to set dates throughout the year. It is a seven night trip which starts on a Tuesday. Fly in to Johannesburg Oliver Tambo airport on a Sunday morning and then be transfered to Lanseria airport (45min drive) for a charter flight to Mashatu Game Reserve airstrip. You will be met and collected by our staff at the airstrip in Botswana. We are very fortunate within the concession area that most of the game are not seasonal. There is no migration of animals and so one can see the resident elephant to the area all year round. The cats are territorial and stay where their prey grazes. The summer safaris are taken out early in the morning, so most of the riding avoids the heat of the day. In winter the safari ride can start a little later. So its really personal preference as to when to come.
April 28 - Dec 31 is £3 080 per person sharing for 7 nights. Single supplement is £750 pp.

Guides leading the safari have many years experience and most have grown up in the area and know the bush like the back of their hand. Our guides have either professional or assistant guiding licenses with the Botswanan Qualifications Authority. They are qualified to use firearms and qualified in first aid. Horizon Horseback Botswana manager, Lindy Hill, is also one of the reserves first responders (advanced level 3 medical certificate) and works together with the reserves team of first aiders, if anyone needs to be medivacced.
Horizon Horseback Botswana, formerly Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris, is situated on a private game reserve, Mashatu Game reserve, in the Tuli Block, Southern Botswana.
The main stable area is juxta opposed to the Pont Drift border, and the Two Mashatus camp is not far from the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe rivers. Other camps for the safari are through the reserve area of 60,000 hectares.
The terrain is varied, with open and riverine areas. The classic topography is scattered with ancient rock formations and baobab trees. The ground is great for long extended canters.
We are very fortunate as this are does not have seasonal migration of animals, and has excellent game viewing all year round.
Collection and transfers from Oliver Tambo International (Johannesburg, South Africa) airport are organised with our partner company Saddlebag Shuttles.
The transfer from and to ORT airport and the South African / Botswanan border post at Pont Drift takes approximately 6 hours depending on traffic and stops en route. The Pont Drift border closes at 4pm.
Charter flights can be organised from Lanseria airport, Johannesburg, South Africa to Botswana (Mashatu Game Reserve private airfield).
Guests are met at Oliver Tambo International airport, transferred by road to Lanseria (45min drive) for their charter flight. Guests are the met at the Mashatu Game Reserve airfield in Botswana by our Horizon Horseback Staff, where they are transported to the Horizon Horseback reception and stable yard.
